Understanding Text Message Credit Usage in OneShop

Learn how OneShop text credits work, including allocation, message limits, and how to manage or extend your usage.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

1. Monthly Text Credit Allocation

  • Every OneShop subscription includes a monthly allotment of text credits.

  • Credits reset on the 1st day of each calendar month and expire on the last day of that month.

  • No rollover β€” unused credits do not carry over to the next month.

2. How Credits Are Calculated

  • 1 credit = 1 segment = 150 characters of plain text.

  • Exceeding 150 characters increases the credit usage:

    • 151–300 characters = 2 credits

    • 301–450 characters = 3 credits, etc.

3. Emoji and MMS Impact on Credits

  • Emojis change the character encoding:

    • Messages with emojis are calculated at 70 characters per segment instead of 150.

    • 71+ characters = 2 credits (for emoji messages).

  • MMS (Photo Messages):

    • Each message costs 3 credits per recipient.

    • You can include up to 1,600 characters in an MMS.

4. Previewing Credit Usage in Broadcasts

  • When creating a text broadcast, OneShop will show:

    • Total recipients (e.g., 155 clients).

    • Message length (e.g., 211 characters = 2 credits).

    • Total credits used for the entire send.

    • Remaining credits after the broadcast.

  • You cannot send a broadcast that exceeds your available credit balance.

5. Filtering to Reduce Credit Usage

  • Use filters to narrow your recipient list:

    • E.g., customers who purchased in the last 6 months.

  • This limits how many messages are sent and how many credits are consumed.

6. Automation Credits Count Too

  • Text messages sent through automations also use credits.

  • OneShop will show how many credits each automated message consumes.

    • Example: A 211-character message = 2 credits per send.

  • These count against your monthly credit allocation just like broadcasts.

7. Purchasing Additional Credits

  • If you anticipate going over your limit:

    • Reach out to the OneShop team to upgrade your credit package or buy extra credits.

    • This ensures uninterrupted delivery of broadcasts and automations.
