How to Create a Basic Broadcast in OneShop with Filters

Learn how to quickly send a text, email, or combined message to your customers using OneShop’s Basic Broadcast tool. This is the fastest way to send promotions, announcements, and updates to your entire subscriber list.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

1. Navigate to the Campaigns Page

  • Log in to your OneShop account.

  • From the left-hand menu, go to Campaigns.

  • Click Create Basic Broadcast.

This opens a new broadcast and automatically generates both a text and email preview (if you're set up for both).

2. Review Your Sending Information

On the right-hand preview panel, you’ll see:

  • Your sending phone number (for texts)

  • Your sending email address

  • Your sender display name

⚠️ If no phone number appears, your text message program is not set up yet. You can still send email-only broadcasts until SMS is active.

3. Choose Your Send Method

At the top, select how you want customers to receive your message:

  • Text or Email (default):
Sends a text first if they’re opted into SMS. If not, sends an email.

  • Email Only:
    Sends only to email subscribers.

  • Text Only:
    Sends only to text subscribers.

4. Write Your Broadcast Message

Type your message into the text box.

To insert your customer’s name:

  • Click First Name
→ This dynamically merges their first name when sending.

Example:
“Hey {{firstName}}, we’re having an in‑store event this weekend!”

Both the text and email versions will copy your message automatically.

5. Optional: Make Text and Email Messages Different

If you want your text and email content to differ:

  • Uncheck Auto-Copy Between Fields.

  • Edit the text message separately from the email version.

💡 Note:
Text messages should stay under 160 characters (or 70 characters if you use emojis) to avoid multiple SMS credits.

6. Add an Image to Your Broadcast

  • Click Add Image.

  • Choose from:

    • Shared Assets (reusable graphics)

    • Uploads

    • Upload Image (to choose a new file from your computer)

Your selected image will appear in both previews.

Be sure to Save Draft afterward.

7. Add a Bonus or Reward (Optional)

Click Next to open the Bonus / Reward section.

You can choose one of three types:

1. Dollar Amount

Example: $5 off
Works natively with integrated POS systems.

2. Coupon (for Heartland or Lightspeed)

Choose any coupon already set up in your POS
—percent off, BOGO, etc.

3. Custom Reward

Example:
“Buy One, Get One Free Pants”
You’ll manually apply the discount in your POS, but OneShop will still track redemption.

Then set:

  • Start date & time

  • End date & time

Save your draft when finished.

8. Convert to Advanced Mode (Optional)

If you want additional customization:

  • Click Make Advanced.

In Advanced Mode you can:

  • Change the sender name

  • Add filters (e.g., customers who bought a certain brand, new customers only, etc.)

  • Fine‑tune messaging details or exclusions

Filtering lets you message a targeted group instead of your entire subscriber list.

9. Finalize Your Broadcast

Once your message is ready:

  • Click Send to send immediately
    or

  • Schedule for later in the next video’s process

Basic broadcasts take 1–2 minutes to build and function like posting on social media—except you’re reaching customers by email or text.
